The Sage Groups’ Client, is a cloud-based platform that combines the functionality of a spreadsheet with the features of a database, is seeking a Google Web Analytics & Tagging Lead to architect, implement, and maintain the technical infrastructure behind our web analytics stack. This role is responsible for the end-to-end accuracy, scalability, and governance of user behavior data collected across the business and related web properties.

You will lead implementation and oversight of Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Tag Manager (GTM), and a scalable event tagging and data layer schema – enabling high-quality web analytics, campaign measurement, and funnel performance. You’ll collaborate closely with Web, SEO, Engineering, Data, Marketing Ops, and Privacy/Security to ensure a privacy-compliant and a reliable system that supports experimentation, reporting, and business decision-making.

What you’ll do:

  • Analytics and data layer architecture: Own the configuration, deployment, and governance of Google Analytics. Define and maintain a robust event taxonomy. Design, deploy, and maintain a clean and scalable GTM container, including tag firing rules, triggers, variables, and debugging processes. Implement tagging for custom events, scrolls, video engagement, form submissions, click tracking, and conversions. Own the marketing data layer specification used for tag management, GTM, and downstream analytics.
  • Governance, QA, and documentation: Implement and manage robust QA processes for new events, including staging validation, and post-launch audits. Maintain tracking documentation and change logs. Proactively monitor tag health, duplicate firing, and conflicts between tools.
  • Reporting and insights: Build and maintain clear, actionable dashboards in Looker. Conduct deep-dive analysis to uncover trends, anomalies, and optimization opportunities.
  • Web funnel analysis: Partner with Data Team to map user journeys across domains and conversion points. Drive understanding of channel and content performance across first-touch, multi-touch, and last-touch frameworks.
  • A/B testing management: Implement and manage experiments using Webflow Optimize for web, paid, and campaign teams. Ensure accurate tracking of experiment conversions, engagement, and behavioral impacts via GA4. Collaborate with Marketing and Design to deploy, monitor, and sunset tests based on data.
  • Privacy, Consent, and Cookie Management: Partner with Security and Legal teams to implement compliant cookie and tracking infrastructure. Manage cookie consent frameworks (OneTrust) across our web properties. Define tagging policies to ensure data collection aligns with privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA). Conduct regular audits of third-party scripts, pixels, and trackers to minimize risk.

Who you are:

  • 3-5+ years of experience in web analytics implementation, tagging architecture, or marketing instrumentation
  • Deep technical expertise in GA4 and GTM, with a strong understanding of event-based data models, session tracking, and attribution logic
  • Experience designing and maintaining data layers, working cross-functionally with developers to implement structured tagging
  • Hands-on experience integrating GA4 data into a warehouse environment (Databricks, BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.)
  • Proficient in debugging tools (e.g., Tag Assistant, network tab, GTM preview mode) and documenting analytics schemas
  • Familiar with Looker or other BI tools; able to translate tracking design into downstream reporting logic
  • Strong cross-functional communicator, able to bridge the gap between marketing goals, engineering constraints, and analytics
